The Interview
My Selection: Could you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
Olivia Dissescou: My name is Olivia, I’m the founder of Our Little Company, a Frenchy web & design boutique agency based in Singapore. I’m also the mother of 3 children. I’ve been in Singapore for almost a decade.
MS: What does your job entail exactly?
OD: My job is to run a web and design agency which is the job I’ve always dreamt about! Back in Paris I used to work in a large bank and was getting super frustrated with office politics. I’ve always been passionate about web design and was dreaming of starting my own small web design company. 10 years later, here I am! Our Little Company is a small agency with 7 people but it feels like a big achievement to me. The job can get pretty challenging and intense but it comes with a great sense of achievement. Every day feels like a new adventure!
MS: How long have you been living in Singapore and what brought you there?
OD: We arrived in 2008 with my husband’s company where I was also working at the time. Like many people we were here on a 3-year contract to begin with, then we decided to settle down here. We are now PR (Permanent Resident) and will probably stay here a few more years… until new exciting opportunities come up!
MS: With work done, how do you like spending your free time in the Lion City?
OD: I would love to say that I spend my free time in some cool and trendy places in Singapore but the truth is I live next to Orchard road and this is where I end up spending most of my free time. Even though this is not my favorite spot in Singapore, it’s really convenient to have all these malls at your fingertips. And I don’t have a lot of “free time” anyway. After a busy day at work, the homework catch up with the kids is often a killer and I end up exhausted every day craving for my bed! On week end, I love to go cycling on East Coast Park.
MS: Singapore is famously a melting pot of cultures and, as a result, also of multiple cuisines. What are your favorites?
OD: My favorite asian cuisine is Japanese. I also eat Thai 2 to 3 times a week as we have a nice small thai restaurant right down our office. Jai Thai on Purvis Street is probably THE French Thai canteen in Singapore, at lunchtime, you can hear french speaking at at least half of their tables 😉
MS: Where do you like to have dinner in Singapore? Could you name your Top 3 picks among restaurants, bars & cafes in Singapore?
OD: There are so many options that this is extremely difficult to pick 3. At the moment I like Chop Suey at Dempsey. I also go often go to Limoncello on Roberston Quay. I’m also going through a ramen phase and like Ippudo.

MS: Selecting wine depends very much on the occasion. When do you like to drink wine? On its own / with a meal / alone / with company?
OD: I love wine and can drink wine in any circumstances!
MS: Are there any wines that you particularly like and would recommend to our readers? Or maybe you have your favorite pairings with the food you mentioned before?
OD: I love strong red wine so I would probably go for a Bordeaux. Why not Chateau Tour Seran 2009 from My Selection :).
