The Gogain plate is the result of a cracked enameled stoneware production. This enameling technique, developed in Asia in the 16th century, is entirely handmade in China. To achieve this cracked finish, the ceramic pieces are immersed in water directly from the oven. This significant thermal shock leads to the appearance of cracks and the more or less metallic effect of the colors.
The color, cracks and final shape of each piece therefore depend on the temperature, the cooking time, the thickness of the enamel and how it is applied.
